Dear Parents/ Guardians,
First of all, thanks to all our parents who attended the meeting in school last Monday evening. At this meeting there was a frank discussion about the impact of mobile devices and social media on our children’s well-being. The overwhelming feeling was the need for the school community to act together and minimise the negative effects devices and social media can have on our children.
To this end, it was agreed to ask families to sign up to the ‘Smarter Charter’. In doing this, families agree to wait until the end of Rang a 6 to allow children access to mobile phones and to restrict children’s access to social media.
Obviously, this is an unenforceable policy – there is no policing of individual families’ use of mobile phones or tablets. We hope that families will look on this as an opportunity to have a discussion with their children about how they interact with the digital world.
We are asking families to sign the charter and send them back in to school where they will be displayed in the front hall.
